- Not impressed with any of these suggestions to eat or party. West Des Moines is where all of the new places to eat, shop and party are located. If you are going to put something on your site about downtown Des Moines then I would suggest the Court Avenue District. Plenty of great restaurants and the ONLY place you will find safe nightlife in Des Moines proper. This is just a suggestion but I feel certain that if you ask any of the locals (as I have many times) they will tell you the same thing! (Posted on 31 Oct 2011)
