Elkmont Historic District

The Civil War in Knoxville
The War Between the States reached Knoxville at the Battle of Fort Sanders. This exhibit, made up primarily of artifacts, brings the sorrowful events to life. A Union artillerist's letters, a Confederate drum left behind and an 1864 map of the defenses are all part of the permanent collection at this top-drawer archeological museum. (03/2011)

WOYZECK
This edgy 19th-century satire is based loosely on the true story of a soldier (Woyzeck) who, in a fit of confused jealousy, murders his girlfriend. It’s one of the most popular plays in German theatre repertory, but since playwright Georg Büchner died before this drama was completed, every staging promises a surprise ending. Oct. 7-24. (10/2010)

SHIFTING STRUCTURES
For this exhibit, artist Jane South constructed one of her sculptural drawings to fit the specs of the KMA.
