Footloose
In the immortal words of Lady Gaga: “It’ll be okay. Just dance.” That’s the same philosophy that guides the lead in this classic show. Chicago-native Ren helps residents in his new rural town overcome their rigidity with a little fancy foot action. Local actors show off their moves to classic 1980s tunes, like “Holding Out for a Hero,” “Almost Paradise” and, of course, “Footloose.” Through July 24. (9/2011)

Fun Fact!
In 1925, African-American
river worker Tom Lee rescued
32 passengers from the
M.E. Norman, a steamboat
sinking in the Mississippi
River, even though he couldn't
swim. Today, the city’s
riverfront park is named in
his honor and two statues
depicting the scene on
the river commemorate his
heroic deed.
