    Yes, you can get great vegan fare here, as well as dairy-free burritos and amazingly fresh salads, but if you’re carnivorous, there are good poultry and seafood sandwiches too, like the tuna melt and chicken pine nut.     Enjoy a real farm breakfast on Sunday mornings at this authentic, free-range chicken farm.   • Benelux Grand Café

    Finally, the folks at Diablos Rojos, now Lowlands Group, opened up a Dutch pub in the Third Ward. With 30 beers on tap and over 150 total beer choices, don’t forget to try the food, like the bacon-wrapped Benelux meatloaf, the sweet potato frites and various Pannenkoeken (pancakes).   • Dick’s Pizza and Pleasure

    Anime art covers the walls and coal-fired pizzas warm the bellies. Start with prosciutto wrapped fontina cheese or mussels, but save room for the pizzas, which come decked with everything from piquillo peppers to potatoes. And if you think a 14-inch pizza with foie gras, kobe beef, truffles and burrata is worth it, plunk down $100. Or, come at noon for a $3 slice. $$ (09/2011)

    Don’t expect large pies, but do expect some of the best Neopolitan-style pizzas in town. These delicate, thin-crusted beauties are topped with fresh mozzarella, woodroasted vegetables and more, and even cater to gluten-free diets.     This funky, Bayview coffeehouse not only serves up good mochas and lattes, but it also makes some seriously good soups, quiches, sandwiches and salads. The Japanese ginger salad is especially fresh, and unless you’re a rabbit, the “small” is really quite large. $ (05/2011)

    The lot always seems to be full at this South Side Mexican restaurant, but don’t fear:The restaurant’s larger than you think, and service is so fast that you’ll get a seat even on busy nights.     Coming to this South Side restaurant (open for more than 40 years) is a little like going to grandma’s house—if grandma happens to be a Serbian gourmet chef.     Even if it’s 8am on a weekday, they’ll ask if you want a bloody Mary with your breakfast. This eatery, as featured on the Food Network, is everything you want a diner to be.
