  • Timelines

The rule of antique shopping applies here: A fail-safe way to find a sublime Jens Risom chair or cobalt glass and copper Art Deco tea service is to be patently not looking for those items while being broke. Everything at the store has "clean lines and strong design." (9/2011)

  • RED STAG SUPPERCLUB

This retro-done-right hotspot is all about community— braised lamb, cheese curds, English peas and the chanteuse crooning her story all grew up within a few zip codes of here. Have a lemon basil martini to welcome you to it, and don’t miss the local carrot and coriander soup. $$$ (9/2011)

  • 112 Eatery

Chef Isaac Becker can sling it high (tagliatelle with foie gras meatballs) or low (cheeseburger), but the reason he was named Best Chef in the Midwest is that the team at this warm and intimate restaurant focuses their considerable talents on making real, good food. Period. $$$ (9/2011)

  • Barbette

Prix-fixe Mondays—four local and sustainable courses for $32—are an excellent value, but the food is more memorable than the price. Steamed mussels, parsnip agnolotti and steak helene with braised kale and horseradish make for a mouthwatering French meal. $$$ (9/2011)

  • Town House Bar

Girls, boys, kings, queens and anyone else looking for a straight-up good time flock to this showy bar. Shows are a tad rough around the edges, thus extra-fabulous. Stiff drinks, pool, darts, a well-used dance floor, karaoke and Blanche’s piano bar accommodate everyone. (9/2011)

  • Lord Fletcher’s Old Lake Lodge

Minnesota’s version of a drive-in lets you park your boat and navigate its waterside deck. It’s hard to say whether it’s the live music, the righteous cocktails, the $4 burgers/$1.75 beers on Mondays or the blond ‘n’ tans that reel so many in to this Lake Minnetonka classic. (9/2011)

  • Psycho Suzi’s Motor Lounge

Terminally tacky, this is an excellent place for dissipation. The upstairs lounge features three themed bars, or opt for a rum-spiked beverage on the patio, where you can watch barges slide by on the neighboring mighty Mississippi. (9/2011)

Fun Fact!

While many believe it refers to his digs in Manhattan, Bob Dylan’s "Positively 4th Street" could also be an epic goodbye and good riddance to his former folk homies at Fourth Street and 14th Ave in Minneapolis’ Dinkytown neighborhood.
