  • 720 Music, Clothing and Cafe

While it only recently moved into its current space (and expanded to serve coffee, pastries and sandwiches), this store, which stocks vinyl records, CDs and DVDs, has been a presence in the music community—especially, but not exclusively, the hip-hop scene—for years. (09/2011)

  • Hobo Fashion Thrift

With brands like Chanel and Bruno Magli gracing the racks, the name of this store is misleading. A relatively new entry into the vintage clothing scene in town, Hobo bills itself as a thrift store—indicating lower prices than the usual “vintage” boutique, but with a stock to rival any one of those. 412-690-2424

  • Pittsburgh Public Market

This new Strip District indoor open-air market sells mostly artisan foods like Middle Eastern pastries, organic veggies and local pierogies. But keep an eye out for less typical market items, like handmade scarves and craft beer. (04/2011)

  • EONS FASHION ANTIQUE

Far from a mere thrift store, this is Pittsburgh’s vintage mecca. Man or woman, if you dress to impress with “grand old” rather than “brand new,” this should be your fi rst stop in town. (01/2011)

    5850 Ellsworth Ave
    412-361-3368

  • PAITITI

Colorful handmade goods and clothing fill this quirky Squirrel Hill storefront. Peruvian wares are the standard, but anyone with a down-toearth (dare we say hippie?) sense of style can find fun duds here. (11/2010)

    1823 Murray Ave
    412-521-1201

  • LUXX CLOTHING & HAIR SALON

Since opening in 2002, Luxx has remained at the forefront of the hip boutique movement in Pittsburgh. Now, the store has a salon— because if you’re getting that neo-mod dress, you might as well get the geometric haircut to go with it. (11/2010)

    1003 E Carson St
    412-381-2957

  • PAGEBOY SALON & BOUTIQUE

Pageboy is a recent addition to the increasingly hip Lower Lawrenceville neighborhood. Part vintage store, part local designer boutique and part hair salon, it’s got all the elements for stylish looks for men and women. (10/2010)

  • GAMES UNLIMITED

You won’t find a Wii at this entertainment shop: It only carries board and card games and jigsaw puzzles. Look for party games like Truth Be Told; it’s described as a cross between Balderdash and Apples to Apples. (05/2010)

  • JERRY’S RECORDS

Vinyl may be the medium of the last century, but it’s experiencing a resurgence in popularity in the wake of tinny-sounding MP3s. This record shop offers room after room of LPs. (05/2010)
