  • The Embassy Series

    Promoting musical diplomacy since 1994 by showcasing individual countries' musical contributions, this concert series is held in embassies and ambassadors' residencies that would normally be inaccessible.   • Washington Improv Theater

    Masters of long-form improv, this theater’s Harold teams (named for a 40-year-old tradition of comedy that incorporates audience suggestions) play games of call-and-response Tuesday nights at 10pm.   • The Pilgrim Observation Gallery

    Poised atop the National Cathedral's west end, this nook offers a 360-degree view of DC, from the seventh floor of one of its highest structures (also the secondlargest cathedral in the US). In addition, the short elevator ride offers interior glimpses into the flying buttresses, crockets, finials and the Gloria in Excelsis Tower. (08/2011)

  • Lincoln Park

    Located 1 mile due east of the US Capitol, this park was originally intended to be a zeromile marker for measuring North America, but ended up home to two impressive statues: the Emancipation Memorial of Abraham Lincoln and Archer Alexander (one of the last men captured under the Fugitive Slave Act) and a memorial to African-American educator/ activist Mary McLeod Bethune.   • Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania National Military Park

    The second-largest military park in the world, this site features four key Civil War battlefields: Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, Chancellorsville and Wilderness. Guided and self-guided driving and walking tours are available throughout the landscape, which saw 85,000 wounded and 15,000 killed.
