Hello, and thanks for flying AirTran Airways.
As I write this letter, I’m reminded of all the “What I did over the summer” essays that I had to write in grade school. AirTran Airways has had quite an eventful summer. And I’m excited to share with you some of the “things we did.”
At the end of May, we announced our partnership with Andretti Green Racing, the 2004 IndyCar Series champions, beginning with the 89th running of the Indy 500®. This partnership was a great move for both AirTran Airways and the city of Indianapolis, as AirTran Airways began low fare service to the city only a short while ago. AirTran Airways sponsored all four of the Andretti Green cars, including the #7 Honda driven by Bryan Herta, of which XM Satellite Radio is the major sponsor. AirTran Airways is the first airline to offer XM Satellite Radio, and we are continually adding the service to more of our jets as we speak.
In June, AirTran Airways hosted the Grand Bahama Golf Classic, a charity golf tournament benefiting Traveler’s Aid of Metropolitan Atlanta, a social service agency who assists homeless and at-risk Atlanta residents in need. At the event, we raised approximately $100,000 for Traveler’s Aid, which will play a major role in the new Atlanta homeless service center that Mayor Shirley Franklin helped open on July 5th.
A summer wouldn’t be complete without us adding to our route map. In the last couple of months, service from Richmond and Charlotte has begun. The Charlotte service kickoff was highlighted with appearances by Carolina Panthers’ Quarterback Jake Delhomme and Charlotte Mayor Patrick McCrory, who participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony for the inaugural flight. AirTran Airways’ entrance into Richmond was also a rousing success, as Indy 500® champion Dan Wheldon was named honorary captain and took to the tarmac in full racing gear to marshal in the inaugural AirTran Airways Richmond flight. In addition to these new destinations, we announced that we will begin nonstop service from Indianapolis to Sarasota/Bradenton, Ft. Myers and Ft. Lauderdale this fall as well. As always, we are continually looking to expand our route map further in order to better serve you.
In other big news, AirTran Airways is proud to be offering the first low fare scheduled service to Cancun from Atlanta and Tampa. Serving this new international route will be our growing fleet of fuel-efficient Boeing 737 aircraft. Cancun will be our second international destination (behind Grand Bahamas Island).
What will next summer bring? Who knows? One thing’s for sure, though—AirTran Airways will continue to look for ways to make your low fare travel experience with us even better.
Thanks again for flying with us. We hope to see you again soon.
Cordially,
Joe Leonard Chairman and CEO
