Welcome to AirTran Airways
Hello, and thanks for flying AirTran Airways.
As we all know, the destruction of Hurricane Katrina has been extremely devastating to the Gulf Coast region. We at AirTran Airways are so grateful that all of our Crew Members are safe, and we extend our thoughts to all those impacted by this tragedy.
AirTran Airways has been working with several relief agencies including the American Red Cross, The Salvation Army and Travelers Aid of Metropolitan Atlanta during these difficult times, and will continue to fulfill their requests for support.
Following the hurricane, our Crew Members set aside personal tragedy and volunteered their time to aid those who needed our help the most. We partnered with Atlanta-based radio stations WVEE and WAOK to raise awareness of the need for food, water and medical supplies for victims of the hurricane. Our airline, the largest all-jet carrier in Gulfport/Biloxi, delivered more than 52,000 pounds of supplies donated by listeners to people in this area.
We also teamed up with NFL quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning, natives of New Orleans, who with the help of Marsh Foods, Gatorade and St. Vincent Healthcare provided 31,000 pounds of supplies. The star quarterbacks then helped us deliver the supplies to Baton Rouge.
Our efforts continued with a special relief flight to bring New Orleans based Emergency Medical Technicians, police officers and firemen from Baton Rouge to Atlanta for a short break from their services.
We are proud of the efforts of our Crew Members who made these relief efforts possible. And we are especially proud that in just one week after the hurricane, our Crew Members donated over $44,000 to aid their fellow Crew Members in New Orleans and Gulfport/Biloxi, and that amount continues to grow.
We all know it will take much more than these acts to aid the relief effort. It will take all of us working together for as long as it takes to help the affected people rebuild their lives. Please be sure to contact your local branch of the Red Cross, Salvation Army or Travelers Aid and learn what you can do to help.
We are committed to the Gulfport/Biloxi and New Orleans communities and will continue to restore flights into these markets as conditions allow and demand grows.
Thanks again for flying with us.
We hope to see you again soon.
Cordially, Joe Leonard Chairman and CEO
