Disneyland is celebrating the arrival of its first new train engine in nearly 50 years. Park creator Walt Disney was an avid train-lover, and the resort’s railroad has become symbolic of its rich history. the new steam engine (which was built in 1902 by Baldwin Locomotive Works of Philadelphia) has been christened Ward Kimbell, in honor of the legendary animator who got Walt into backyard railroading and was behind such classics as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Fantasia, Dumbo, Cinderella and Alice in Wonderland. the engine has a red cab with red wheels, and sports a Jiminy Cricket silhouette on the headlamp, a character Kimball created for Disney’s Pinocchio. www.disneyland.com
