Beguilingly bold, the hottest new motorcycles combine the latest technology with street smarts for riders who have already “arrived.”

With motorcycle sales reaching $14.6 billion in the US last year, in what was the industry’s 13th consecutive year of growth, baby boomers continue to be the industry’s best customers, according to MarketResearch.com. Mature motorcyclists are snapping up the largest, and often the most outrageously styled, rides on two-wheels in record numbers.

The newest models offer powerful engines, advanced technology and adult-friendly accommodations. The only downside is their cost, which can exceed the sticker prices of some cars. Here’s a look at a few of the latest in bold bikes you might otherwise only see in a blur as they roar past you and down the road.

Victory Vegas Jackpot Denoted by its outrageously wide 250mm rear tire, this flashy number throws all of its chips in the pot with a wicked Sin City appearance that’s highlighted by a telescopic front fork, ultra-low-ride seating and no less than six layers of clear-coat paint. Its 1634cc V-Twin engine leaps off the line with electronic fuel injection and a quick-shifting six-speed gearbox, while slash-cut dual exhausts announce the bike’s departure with authority. Its already menacing-looking exterior can be dressed up with “extreme graphics” in black, yellow or red paint treatments. www.polarisindustries.com/en-us/victory MSRP: $17,499

Yamaha Stratoliner S Heading up Yamaha’s Star line of big bikes, the Stratoliner S delivers top performance and comfort, with forceful styling that’s slathered in eye-catching chrome accents. A new 1854cc air-cooled and fuel-injected V-Twin engine gives exhilarating acceleration, while a long and low aluminum frame with an optimally even front-to-rear weight distribution affords nimble handling. A quick-detach windshield and passenger backrest enable the Stratoliner S to quickly go from mean street machine to accommodating highway cruiser in a matter of seconds. www.yamaha-motor.com MSRP: $16,580

Honda Gold Wing Many riders over the years have likened this venerable luxury tourer to an automobile on two wheels, and it’s no wonder.

It offers upscale car features like a voice-activated navigation system, antilock brakes, a six-speaker sound system and heated seats, grips and footwells. What’s more, the aerodynamically styled Gold Wing can be fitted with the motorcycle industry’s first airbag for added safety. Its 1832cc, 118-horsepower six-cylinder engine is larger than those in some subcompact sedans; an electric reverse system makes backing out of a parking space effortless. powersports.honda.com/motorcycles MSRP: $22,499

Harley-Davidson VRSC StreetRod With a forward seating position and a 40-degree lean angle, Harley’s new StreetRod combines a custom roadster look with aggressive cornering agility. Its 1133cc V-Twin engine is specially tuned with straight-shot exhaust pipes to attack the asphalt with 120 horsepower. Brembo triple-disc brakes ensure that the bike will come to a stop as quickly as it accelerates. Ten-spoke cast aluminum alloy wheels with speed-rated tires and a large five-gallon fuel tank add to the StreetRod’s visceral appeal. www.harley-davidson.com MSRP: $15,495
