Outdoor Exploratorium
The popular hands-on Exploratorium is opening an outdoor site, installing 20 interactive science exhibits and works of art at Fort Mason along the waterfront. www.exploratorium.edu

Spring 2009
PITTSBURGH
August Wilson Center for African American Culture
This $36 million center will showcase Pittsburgh's contributions to African-American art, culture and history. www.africanaculture.org

Summer 2009
KANSAS CITY
Schlitterbahn Vacation Village
The first Schlitterbahn Waterpark outside Texas and fourth one total, it will have a saltwater interactive marine park, an enormous tubing park and 1,800 hotel rooms. www.schlitterbahn.com

Late 2009
RICHMOND
CenterStage
This downtown arts development will include a community playhouse, education center and performance space for the Richmond Symphony and Virginia Opera. www.richmondcenterstage.com

Texas Twosome
The Lone Star State has amazing cultural attractions opening this year. The biggest is the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts (www.dallasperformingarts.org), which will be ready Oct. 12. This massive complex will have an opera house, small theater space, outdoor artists' square, main stage and a 10-acre public park. Also opening in October is the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History (www.fwmuseum.org), built on the same site as the previous museum. It will house a state-of-theart planetarium, learning gallery, children's museum and Cattle Raisers Museum.
