2 Cowboys Stadium
Locals are awfully proud of their big stuff, and that’s especially true of the scoreboard at their hometown stadium: It’s the largest in the world. 4 Bolsa
This open-plan market, café and wine bar is proof that there’s more to eat in Texas than meat and potatoes. It offers creative bruschetta stacked with such unlikely toppings as Fuji apple, petit Basque and toasted pine nuts. 614 W Davis St, Dallas; 214-367-9367; www.bolsadallas.com

5 Ghostbar Dallas
A glass paneled 33rd-floor terrace at the W Hotel is the perfect spot for a nightcap with a view. Order a Lone Star beer and see if you can pick out all of the buildings by Pritzker Prize-winning architects. 2440 Victory Park Ln, Dallas; 214-720-9909; www.starwoodhotels.com

6 Nasher Sculpture Center
Among the Mirós and de Koonings at this peaceful sculpture garden are some striking, not-to-be-missed works by lesser-known artists. Quantum Cloud XX (tornado), a nebulous human figure made of sticks by Antony Gormley, is particularly striking. 2001 Flora St, Dallas; 214-242-5100; www.nashersculpturecenter.org

7 Ft. Worth Stockyards
A visit to Texas isn’t complete without a photo alongside a longhorn steer. Shop for the perfect pair of boots at M.L. Leddy’s, then wear them while watching the twice-daily cattle drive. N Main St, Ft. Worth; 817-624-4741; www.fortworthstockyards.org

8 Galleria Dallas
Normally, the last place you’d want to visit on vacation is the local mall, but Dallas—home of the country’s first planned shopping center—has perfected the art of indoor shopping. Don’t miss the year-round ice-skating rink. 13350 Dallas Pkwy, Dallas; 972-702-7100; www.galleriadallas.com

9 Ft. Worth Botanic Garden
Winter may release the bright red leaves from the maples, but the harmonious design of the Japanese Garden is a sight to behold year-round. Warm up with a trip to the glass-enclosed conservatory. 3220 Botanic Garden Blvd, Ft. Worth; 817-871-7686; www.fwbg.org

10 Dallas Chop House
Old school cowboys may have lived on eggs and beans, but that doesn’t mean you have to. The charred-on the-outside-juicy-on-the-inside cowboy ribeye at this sprawling steakhouse may be the best in town. 1717 Main St, Dallas; 214 736-7300; www.dallaschophouse.com
