Cold Weather Skin Savers
Winter weather takes a toll on skin, leaving it dry, dull and less-than-radiant. We've got your beauty RX — with the help of Dr. Mitchell Chasin-whether your destination is just chilly or downright subzero.
COLD
Headed for a milder clime? "Moderately cold and damp winter climates like San Francisco can actually be good for the skin, as moisture in the air keeps it from drying out," says Chasin, director of Reflections Center for Skin & Body. "But indoors, forced-air heat can suck the moisture out of skin. It's important to use a good moisturizer."

COLDER
"When the temperature drops below freezing (hello, New York), dryness attacks the skin both indoors and out. Use a good moisturizer twice a day, and drink plenty of water. Also, don't forget your lips — a good beeswax or petroleum-based lip balm can prevent lips from drying and cracking."

COLDEST
In extreme winter climates (Minneapolis/ St. Paul, we're looking at you!), pamper skin to the fullest. "Consider switching from lotion to a heavier cream to give your skin extra protection. It's also a good idea to apply moisturizer right after you bathe to help lock in moisture." Another must-have? Eye cream. "The thin skin under the eyes can really suffer when temperatures drop."

BONUS TIPS
EXFOLIATE DRY SKIN. "Weekly facial scrubs are a great way to remove dead skin cells while replenishing the skin with moisture."
DON'T NEGLECT SPF. "The sun doesn't stop damaging your skin just because the thermometer reads 28 degrees."
SLATHER ON HAND LOTION. "Hands tend to bear the brunt of winter's wrath because of exposure to the cold, dry air and hand sanitizers."
