Soul Vacation

Enchantment Resort offers travelers an oasis of calm and renewal in the heart of Arizona's stunning red rock desert.

BY JEFF QUINN —

Set in the heart of Boynton Canyon, the spiritual center of Sedona, Enchantment Resort is a place where people come to reset their biological clocks. Surrounded by red rocks and featuring world-renowned destination spa Mii amo, it's the perfect place to rest the body and heal the spirit, so you can start the new year with a new you. 525 Boynton Canyon Rd, Sedona, AZ (123 miles from Phoenix); 928-282-2900; enchantmentresort.com

1 HAPPY TRAILS
A gorgeous hike delivers you to the head of Boynton Canyon, which the Apache and Yavapi tribes consider their tribal birthplace. 2.5 miles

2 SACRED FEATHER FAN
Boynton Canyon is sacred to the Yavapi and Apachi tribes. Several local artists, including Kathleen Gabriel, craft beautiful traditional ceremonial feather fans from real feathers, deerskin, stones and beads. Use one to brush away the dark spirits. $50 and up. www.owlfeatherstudio.com

3 YOGA
You can hardly do a downward facing dog in Sedona without bumping into a yogi. Still, no studio is more famous than the local original, 7 Centers Yoga Arts, whose Yoga Bliss personal retreat will renew you. $900. www.7centers.com

4 BUDDHA BOARD
After a rejuvenating, spirit-cleansing treatment at Mii amo Spa, pick up a Buddha board from the gift shop. Its here-one-minute-gone-the-next water paintings will help you live in the moment. $38. www.miiamo.com

5 CRYSTAL
At the center of the local alternative healing scene is Mystical Bazaar, the shop that sells crystals, chakra balancers and aura photographs. This powerful apophyllite crystal promotes mental clarity and a regular heartbeat. $350. www.mysticalbazaar.com

6 FOOD
Chef Corey Shomaker whips up filling but healthy "intelligent cuisine" — like English pea soup and goat cheese-crusted filet (pictured) at Mii amo Café. The fresh ingredients are sourced locally, with some even coming from an onsite organic garden. www.miiamo.com
